ITV has acquired the rights to Norwegian TV format, The Box and has put out a tender for a production company to produce the series.

The Box – a high octane adventure reality show – debuted in Norway earlier this year, and places a cast at the mercy of a programme  that could take them anywhere to do anything. The contestants are placed in iconic boxes and transferred to different locations, before being released to take on whatever is on the other side of the door.  The show’s constantly surprising reveals, unique games, and series arc test peoples’ fear of the unknown to the limit…

First launched on TV2 in Norway on 9th January 2025, the highly successful format, created and produced by Seefood TV, has immediately been commissioned for a second series with other territories following suit to secure their own versions of the innovative adventure reality show.

Having secured the much sought after rights to broadcast the series in the UK, ITV is currently out to tender to appoint a production company to produce the series.  The broadcaster will begin talks with a variety of outlets, all with a proven track record at producing big scale reality productions.

Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment & Daytime ITV said: “The Box is an exhilarating and immersive new format, that will not only test our contestants but also invite our viewers on the ultimate TV experience, privy to the contestants’ gameplay and strategy – but will they be able to foresee the outcome?”

Aleksander Herresthal, Chief Creative Officer at Seefood TV said: “The response to The Box worldwide has been incredible—almost overwhelming in the best way. Bringing it to the UK with ITV is a major achievement and a significant next step for our format. From the moment I connected with ITV, I knew this would be the perfect home for the format. The creative team truly valued the content, and they challenged our ideas while they stayed true to the premise. Their insightful questions showed a deep commitment to fully understanding the concept and elevating it to new heights. It’s exactly the kind of collaboration you want – working with people who strive to refine and enhance an idea, shaping it into something exceptional. ITV’s passion for bold, high-energy entertainment is exactly what The Box needs, and I can’t wait to see how they make it their own.”

The Box has been secured by Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment & Daytime ITV.  Joe Mace, Commissioning Editor Entertainment ITV is tasked with leading the tender process.
