Channel 5 has commissioned ITN Productions to produce a new documentary series, A Year In The Forest

The 4 x 60 minute series will enter the woods to document Kielder Forest in Northumberland, England’s largest forest. A Year In The Forest will capture Kielder as it changes through the seasonal cycles, display the woodland’s wildlife and the combination of foresters, ecologists and rangers who maintain it.

The series will use macro and time-lapse techniques, which are often used in natural history programming to capture the habitat.

The series was commissioned by Guy Davies at Channel 5. The Executive Producers for ITN Productions are Will Smith and Andy Dunn.

Speaking of the commission, Dunn said: “The natural beauty of the largest working forest in England is sure to have viewers enthralled. That we can document our immersive access with the best and most innovative filming techniques will only serve to heighten the experience.”

Kevin May, Forest Management Director, North England, said: “Kielder Forest is unique and we are delighted to welcome ITN Productions to explore life in a working forest through the people, the nature and the trees."

“As well as celebrating the beautiful landscape, we want to show how sustainable forest management helps wildlife to thrive and explore the opportunities and challenges facing our forests today.”
