Hometown: A Killing indie, Forest, has launched a sister company, Forest Sounds, to focus on premium factual podcast series.
Established to capitalise on the demand for bigger, better propositions, the new label is focused on the premium end of the market developing a range of narrative podcasts “underpinned with world-class cutting-edge journalism.”
The podcasts will be crafted for audio “but with the potential to translate into the worlds of non-scripted and scripted Film and TV.”
Currently in production on The Kanye Story (BBC Sounds) and a yet to be announced narrative series for another major podcast platform, both due to be released later this year, the new venture is headed up by award-winning Creative Director Pete Sale (The Messenger / Hot Money / Squid Scam).
One of Forest Sound’s first hires is Executive Producer, Susanne Reber. The former head of NPR’s investigative unit, Reber co-founded Reveal, the first investigative radio program and podcast in the United States and is the Creator and Executive Producer of Verified.
“Ever since we started Forest, Mobeen Azhar and I have always been inspired by podcast culture and how it continues to innovate storytelling techniques. Forest Sounds feels like the natural next step for us and in Pete and Susanne we have found the perfect partners to go on this adventure with,” said Jez Lee, Managing Director, Forest Sounds.
“I’m so excited to be launching this new venture. Forest has a proven track record of producing innovative and talked about TV and we want to build on that reputation with Forest Sounds. We have a brilliant new team focused on producing a new wave of high quality narrative audio designed to cut through a very noisy marketplace,” said Pete Sale, Creative Director, Forest Sounds
“Listeners around the world continue to explore podcasts at record numbers. They want to be immersed in good stories and are agnostic in where they come from. There are no borders when it comes to a compelling narrative and plot. I’m excited about joining Jez, Pete, Mobeen and the team at Forest Sounds to create powerful listening experiences together,” said Susanne Reber, Executive Producer, Forest Sounds
Forest is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
