UKTV has confirmed that Josh Widdicombe and James Acaster are back for a fourth series of Dave’s comedy show Hypothetical (8×60′).

The UKTV Original programme produced by Hat Trick follows comedians as they are posed absurd hypothetical situations and scored on how well they would deal with them. Over five rounds, two teams of comedians must think fast as they are faced with a series of completely made-up scenarios and interrogated on their approach to each one.

Josh Widdicombe said, “It is an absolute pleasure to be reunited with James after a year of him not returning my texts or calls. Thank you to Dave for forcing him to hang out with me again”

James Accaster said, “We’re back and more hypotheticaler than ever. Josh and I can’t wait to gunge celebrities and give away thousands of pounds in cold hard cash!”

So far, the series has welcomed comedians including Richard Ayoade, Jo Brand, Ed Gamble, Suzi Ruffell, Sophie Duker and Joel Dommett to come up with their best hypotheticals.

Hypothetical is produced by Hat Trick Productions, commissioned for UKTV by Iain Coyle, head of comedy entertainment, and ordered by Cherie Cunningham Dave channel director. Richard Watsham is UKTV’s director of commissioning and Steve North is genre general manager, comedy and entertainment. Hypothetical is executive produced by Iain Coyle alongside Stu Mather at Hat Trick Productions and the series will be produced by Sophie Le Good and Zoe Tomalin

Iain Coyle said, “Josh, James and the good people at Hat Trick, are bringing us more of the cleverest, funniest, most creative show on telly. I am, understandably, delighted”

Cherie Cunningham said, “We are really excited to have James and Josh back on the channel to host another hilarious series of Hypothetical on Dave. In 2021 our original comedy entertainment slate has gone from strength to strength and with returning UKTV Originals like these 2022 is set to be even stronger.”

Stu Mather said, “We’re all incredibly excited to be heading back into the Hypothetical studio for more nonsense in 2022. We’ve lined up some brilliant guests, loads of stupid scenarios and, of course, a series of embarrassing outfits for James.”
