VFX studio, Freefolk has added VFX Supervisor David Bowman and VFX Producer Hannah Dakin to its film and episodic team.

Bowman has joined after nine years in Canada where he worked at both MPC and ILM on shows including, The Book of Boba Fett (Disney), The Mandalorian (Disney) and Alien: Covenant for Twentieth Century Fox.

Dakin has landed at Freefolk after a stint at Lola, as well as amassing client-side experience prior to specialising in post VFX. Her credits include Bad Sisters (Apple TV+), Our Living World (Netflix) and The Rig (Amazon).

Freefolk Film & Episodic, led by VFX Supervisor, Steve Murgatroyd and VFX Executive Producer, Meg Guidon, recently created 340 magical VFX for the Netflix hit, Fate: The Winx Saga and earlier this year worked on The Baby for SKY Atlantic HBO.

Freefolk has previously worked on Cursed (Netflix) for which it was nominated for a BAFTA Craft Award, The Third Day (Sky / HBO), Pennyworth, season 2 for Warner Horizon and The Alienist (Paramount) for which it won an Emmy.

Freefolk is soon to open the doors on its bespoke new studio space in the heart of Spitalfields with “considerable investment” in state-of-the-art-production servers and workstations to streamline workflow and increase capacity.

Steve Murgatroyd said. “Our Film & Episodic department has had its best year yet. That, coupled with the imminent move to our impressive new studio, means it’s the right time to invest in the right senior talent to enable us to grow further.”

David Bowman said, “After nine years in Canada working at bigger facilities the time is right for me to work with an independent company and creative team, who not only produce excellent work but are excellent people, Freefolk are just that. With Steve and Meg at the helm they really are an exceptionally talented team who are adept at finding creative solutions to the most complex of requirements and always without compromise.  I can’t wait to get stuck into the exciting projects we have in the pipeline, grow the team further and increase the slate of award winning VFX.”
