Firecrest Films continues to expand its senior team with the appointment of Merle Currie as Executive Producer, following the recent closure of Label1 where she was also Executive Producer.

Currie will be returning from London to her home town of Glasgow to take up this new role, based in Firecrest’s office in Govan. She will have responsibilities across development and production.

Currie has a track record in development and production at documentary indies, including Minnow Films, The Garden and Label1.

She developed and produced key Label1 commissions including the award-winning series Hospital for BBC Two, Worlds Collide: The Manchester Bombing for ITV, Monkman and Seagull’s Genius Guide to Britain for BBC Two, Sixteen: Class of 2021 for C4 and Soldier: Made in Yorkshire for BBC One.

Her producer credits include Stacey Dooley Investigates, the award-winning Cancer Research Right Now advertising campaign, The Unbreakables: Life and Love on Disability Campus’and Extreme OCD Camp for BBC Three.

Firecrest recently announced a number of new series including Salmond and Sturgeon: A Troubled Union, featuring new and extensive interviews with both former First Ministers and telling the inside story of the transformation of Scottish National Party from the fringes of politics to the third biggest party in the UK.

The company also secured a double recommission of twenty hours from BBC Scotland for series six and series seven of 10 x 60 observational documentary Paramedics on Scene, and a new 4 x 60 Channel 4 consumer series with Denise Van Outen, Secrets of the Supermarket Buyers.

Firecrest’s multi-award-winning output includes BBC observational series Murder Trial and Murder Case and Amazon Original Three Mothers, Two Babies and a Scandal.

Firecrest Films is supported with funds awarded by the UK Global Screen Fund – financed by the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport and administered by the BFI. The company has been part of the Channel 4 Growth Fund since January 2017.
