Channel 5 has commissioned Controversially, Katie Price – a 90-minute special  – from Firecracker Films that will examine the life and career of TV personality, Katie Price.

Katie Price, aka Jordan became the country’s best known glamour model in the 90’s, before reaching a whole new level of stardom during her well-documented stint on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and subsequent fairy-tale wedding to Peter Andre.

Lucrative magazine deals, perfume and fashion brands and a string of well-paid TV shows followed, allowing her to amass a reported £45 million fortune, with her every move documented in the tabloid press.

But in recent years Price has suffered a fall from grace, and a series of questionable life choices – including short-lived relationships and marriages, numerous plastic surgeries, drink-driving and alleged drug-fuelled partying – have left her needing time in rehab, bankrupt and with a string of driving offences.

Through archive and interviews with tabloid journalists and celebrity friends, this 90’ documentary will explore the highs and lows of the personal life and career of one of Britain’s most talked about celebrities of the 21st century. It will examine her relationship with the British media, asking what she has come to represent over the last 25 years and whether the surgically enhanced ‘sex kitten’ is, in fact, a feminist icon of our times?

Federico Ruiz, commissioning editor, Channel 5 & Paramount+, said: “Katie Price’s rollercoaster rise to fame and fractured relationship with the press give a fascinating insight into the changing attitudes of modern Britain. We’re excited to add this unique and gripping story to our substantial slate of premium factual feature docs.”

Jenny Midl, executive producer at Firecracker Films, said: “From the moment Katie Price stepped into the spotlight as 90’s topless pin-up ‘Jordan’ she’s made headlines and – love her or loathe her – it seems everyone has an opinion on her.

“Charting the rollercoaster ups and downs of her career and personal life, this film will give viewers an insight into a British icon and will be a fascinating exploration of class and cultural change in 21st century Britain.”

Sam Emmery, creative director at Firecracker Films, said: “It’s great to be working with Channel 5 on this feature-length documentary about Katie Price. Her life story is incredibly unique yet speaks to so many of the big themes surrounding fame and celebrity in Britain over the last 25 years.”

Controversially, Katie Price is executive produced by Jenny Midl and Sam Emmery at Firecracker Films, a Tinopolis company.
