Sound design and audio post house, Factory Studios, has promoted James Utting to Creative Director.
Utting joined the B Corp-certified studio as a runner in 2013 and has since risen through the ranks, becoming a Sound Designer in 2020. Over the years, he has played a key role in delivering acclaimed work for agencies and global brands including Coca-Cola, BBC, Volkswagen, Channel 4, Apple and PlayStation.
Stand out projects include the BBC’s 2024 Paris Olympics campaign, as well as his more recent projects for Vue Cinema’s EPIC screens. His wider body of work has also received recognition from the Clios, Creative Circle, Music + Sound Awards, The One Club and Kinsale Sharks. Most recently, his sound design work on the short film Trading Cards, directed by Radheya Jang, contributed to the project winning Best Animation at Flickerfest 2026.
In his new role as Creative Director, he will work alongside fellow Factory CD’s Mark Hills, Daniel Beckwith & Steve Lane to help spearhead the studio’s creative output while mentoring and developing the emerging talent across the business.
“I’m incredibly excited to step into the role of Creative Director at Factory Studios,” said Utting. “Throughout my time here, it’s always been clear that hard work and creativity are recognised and supported. This progression reflects Factory’s commitment to investing in its people and fostering long-term growth from within. Having the opportunity to help shape the creative direction of the studio, while supporting and developing the next generation of talent, is a genuine privilege. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.”
Anthony Moore, Owner and Chief Creative Officer of Factory Studios, said: “James’ journey through the company perfectly reflects the culture we’ve worked hard to build at Factory. His creative talent, attention to detail and consistently high standards have made a huge impact on both our work and our clients over the years. Alongside being an exceptional sound designer, James is also a brilliant collaborator and an incredibly supportive member of the team, always willing to mentor and encourage emerging talent within the studio. This promotion is hugely deserved, and we’re all excited to see him step into this new leadership role. HWFG!”
