Dancing Ledge Productions is to make eight-part romantic comedy action thriller Wedding Season for Disney +.
The series, billed as a “genre busting escapist romance,” will be a Star Original, with production starting this autumn.
Dancing Ledge, producer of The Salisbury Poisonings, is working on Wedding Season with upcoming screenwriter Oliver Lyttelton (Cheaters) and director George Kane (Timewasters, Flack, Crashing). Executive producers include Lyttelton, Chris Carey (Les Miserables, Apple Tree Yard), Laurence Bowen (The Eichmann Show, Delhi Crime) and Toby Bruce (The Salisbury Poisonings).
Wedding Season is produced in association with Jax Media (Russian Doll) with Lilly Burns, Brooke Posch and Tony Hernandez also acting as executive producers.
The series follows Katie, a beautiful bride who we meet on her wedding day surrounded by the dead bodies of her new husband and every member of his family. The police think her lover Stefan did it. Stefan thinks Katie did it. Katie thinks her ex-husband did it.
“When we first read Oli’s brilliant scripts for Wedding Season we laughed out loud… and we were desperate to find out what happened next” says Johanna Devereaux, Director, Scripted Content, EMEA, The Walt Disney Company. “It’s an addictive, genre-defying series packed with twists and turns.”
Wedding Season adds to the 14 previously announced European projects, as part of Disney’s ambition to commission 50 productions in Europe by 2024.
