Curious Films has won a commission from BBC Three and content producer Insight TV to co-produce a third season of women’s football observational documentary series Squad Goals.

The series will launch in the UK on BBC Three later this year and globally on Insight TV.

Squad Goals 3: Dorking Til I Die (working title, 6×30’) follows Calum Best on his maiden season as Chairman of Dorking Wanderers FC Ladies. The Ladies team is only in its second season, but the club is on the cusp of huge growth, with a new stadium in the pipeline. As well as Dorking’s performance on the pitch, the series will follow the players’ personal challenges and sacrifices as they look to battle their way up the football league. Also fighting for the team’s reputation is Calum Best, the son of legendary footballer George Best. Has he got what it takes to continue the illustrious footballing dynasty?

Dov Freedman, Founder, Curious Films said: “We are thrilled with the green light from BBC Three and Insight TV for a third season of Squad Goals which promises to be the most entertaining so far. Women’s grassroots football rarely gets much coverage and this will be an eye-opening series following a club in transition with a high-profile new chairman.”

Michael Jochnowitz, Commissioning Editor added: “In the year of the Euros, the women’s game has never been bigger, and Squad Goals is fast establishing itself as a really important brand for us. And so a football series with the mythical Best name attached? It was a no-brainer.”

Calum Best, Chairman, Dorking Wanderers FC Ladies added: “Women’s football is attracting more and more attention and interest. I see this series as an opportunity to show what grassroots women’s football is all about – the challenges, the hard work and the highs and lows of a team and a club looking to create something special.”

Alexander Rowe, Executive Producer at Insight TV said, “We’re delighted to be joining BBC Three and Curious Films to continue the journey of Squad Goals. The beautiful game has a global language, and in the Dorking Wanderers Ladies team, we have a great opportunity to tell a story with the passion and quality that resonates with fans watching Insight TV’s growing suite of TV and social media channels around the world.”

Squad Goals: Dorking Til I Die (w/t) is executive produced by Dov Freedman and Charlie Russell for Curious Films. Alexander Rowe is Executive Producer for Insight TV. It was commissioned by Fiona Campbell for BBC Three with Michael Jochnowitz as Commissioning Editor.
