One of the main backers of the proposed Crown Works Studios in Sunderland has pulled out of the project, according to the BBC.
The studio project, a joint venture between The Kardashians and Sunderland ‘Til I Die producer, Fulwell 73 and Cain International, with the backing of Sunderland City Council and the North East Mayoral Combined Authority, will boast 20 premium sound stages suitable for major feature film and HETV productions.
According to the BBC, Cain International has now departed the project but has not publicly given a reason for the decision.
Fulwell and the local authorities will now seek alternative backing for the project.
The £450m project, planned for the banks of the River Wear, was given the greenlight by Sunderland City Council in March last year. Along with the sound stages, it will have production workshops and office space, a vendor village for supply chain businesses, administrative and social facilities, multi-storey car parks and an extensive backlot.
