Channel 5 has commissioned Crackit Productions and GroupM Motion Entertainment to produce a new three-part natural history series that “offers viewers a surprising, insightful, and shocking look into the planet’s most feared predator – the shark.”
Each episode of Shark (w/t) takes a look at different aspects of the shark, from vicious attacks, conservation, survivor stories to examining a shark’s anatomy.
The “natural history event special” heads to the “undisputed shark attack capital of the world, Florida. ” Within the state, there have been over 350 recorded shark bites, more than any other country on the planet.
Viewers will learn how the predators hunt and how they have been honed through thousands of years with input from experts about what can be done to ensure the endangered predators can survive. There will also be first-hand shark attack survivor stories, brought to life by UCG and archive.
Elaine Hackett, CEO at Crackit said: “For three incredible nights, we’ll be bringing the world’s most fearsome predators into the homes of the Channel 5 audience. Each episode will be a mixture of shocking and terrifying stories with plenty of teeth and bite – but always reminding us why we need to value and look after these extraordinary beasts and why they remain a valued part of the ecosystem.”
Federico Ruiz, Commissioning Editor at Channel 5 added: ““This series is a visceral, thrilling, white-knuckle ride. There are few things more terrifying than a shark attack, as recent news reports illustrate. After this, you’ll think twice before stepping into your bath.”
Melanie Darlaston, Exec Producer at GroupM Motion Entertainment said: “It’s a pleasure to be working with Crackit on this series which explores exactly why these fearsome creatures are the ocean’s apex predators, and why they deserve our respect and protection.”
The series includes three “ground-breaking” dives without cages. “Taking viewers closer to the sharks during the ‘dusk’ danger hour, to face them when they are at their most active.”
