Lime Pictures has created a Kids division to be led by in-house duo, Tim Compton and Angelo Abela.
The pair will report to Joint MD’s Kate Little and Claire Poyser.
The new entity will sit alongside Lime’s other divisions: Drama and YA, led by Louise Sutton, Hollyoaks and Continuing Drama by Bryan Kirkwood and Non-Scripted programmes by Sarah Tyekiff.
“Lime has a world leading reputation for creating and producing compelling live action content for the most discerning audience – younger viewers. There is an insatiable appetite everywhere for great story telling which is the backbone of Lime’s portfolio, from Free Rein (Netflix), The Evermoor Chronicles (Disney), House of Anubis (Nickelodeon) to Rockets Island (CBBC). As we build our slate further, now is the perfect time to create a separate division led by our Kids maestros Angelo and Tim. We are hugely excited at the prospect of working with the very best writers and production talent to tell more stories that capture the imagination of all viewers, both the young …. and the young at heart” said Little and Poyser.
Abela and Compton said; “There has never been so much opportunity for Kids programming across so many platforms. We want our programmess to continue to broaden the scope of their world and make them feel, laugh and think.”
The new department will be based at Lime’s Liverpool production base.
Prior to joining Lime Pictures Abela directed the BAFTA and RTS award-winning My Parents are Aliens. In 2010 he joined Lime as Series Director and Showrunner of Nickleodeon’s House of Anubis. The show ran for 3 Seasons, was BAFTA nominated and awarded the Nickelodeon Kids Choice award for favourite UK programme. More recently he developed and Produced/Directed Free Rein, which in its first season was nominated for 7 Emmys, winning 2.
Compton developed Lime’s award-winning The Well (BBC Switch) and was story producer and core writer on hit House of Anubis (Nickelodeon). He piloted Rocket’s Island for CBBC, and co-created and produced the International Emmy nominated Evermoor for Disney EMEA.
Together they have just co-produced the 3rd season of double Emmy award-winning Free Rein for Netflix.
