Channel 5 has ordered a second series of Susan Calman’s Grand Day Out.
The bolstered 12 x 60 series will be co-produced by IWC, a Banijay UK company and Motion Content Group. Gerard Costello will be serving as Executive Producer for IWC with Melanie Darlaston for Motion Content Group. The series was ordered by Channel 5 Commissioning Editor (VP) Factual Guy Davies.
The second series sees Susan reunited with her beloved vintage campervan, ‘Helen Mirren’ to continue her quirky adventure around the British Isles. She’ll be exploring even more beautiful parts of the country as well as recalling the childhood journeys and fond experiences of her own family holidays.
In each episode, Susan will travel to a different part of Britain, coaxing Helen through a special bit of British countryside. She’ll be taking in the stunning scenery, meeting the locals, and immersing herself in all the region has to offer. Each of her road trips will culminate in a ‘Grand Day Out’ where she’ll visit a trophy spot of the area or take part in an experience, unique to that part of the country.
Gerard Costello, Executive Producer, IWC said: ‘We’re so glad to have Susan (and Helen!) back on the road again. The first series was a joy to make and it was great to see that the viewers shared in that joy when they watched. There’s so much more of our wonderful country for Susan to explore- and with twice as many episodes, we’re enjoying planning twice as much fun.’
Susan Calman commented: “Almost every day someone asks me when my campervan Helen Mirren will be off on another trip, and it’s wonderful to finally announce that we’re back on the road for even more adventures! I know we’ll discover brilliant people and fabulous places along the way, and I can’t wait to get started. The reaction from the audience to the last series was unbelievably warm and positive, and it’ll be a privilege to keep that journey going! A Grand Day Out indeed.”
Guy Davies, Channel 5 Commissioning Editor, VP Factual added: “After a phenomenally successful first series I’m delighted to welcome Susan and her beloved campervan back for more grand days out. I’m looking forward to see what other gems she uncovers for us later in the year.”
