BT Group is in talks with several companies over a possible sale of its BT Sport business, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The Telegraph reported last night that BT is in talks with Amazon, Disney and Dazn over a possible sale of the sports content arm. An unnamed British broadcaster is reported to be leading the bids.
BT said today that “Further to media reports, BT can confirm that early discussions are being held with a number of select strategic partners, to explore ways to generate investment, strengthen our sports business, and help take it to the next stage in its growth. The discussions are confidential and may or may not lead to an outcome.”
BT has appointed to investment bank Lazard and has held initial discussions with Dazn, Amazon, Walt Disney and private equity companies, according to The Financial Times. An eventual deal could be a full disposal of BT Sport, or a partnership with another media business or the sale of a stake to bring in investment.
