Rock Oyster Media is to make a brand-funded six-part travel series for ITV – Gary Barlow’s Food & Wine Tour: New Zealand – in association with Tourism New Zealand and Great Rail Journeys.
The series marks the third chapter of Barlow’s global food and wine exploration, following on from his series in South Africa and Australia. These series together reached almost 5 million viewers.
This time, he brings his friend, comedian, singer, presenter and actor Jason Manford, being welcomed by Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, tandem biking, and rescuing penguins, as well as exploring olive groves and vineyards.
David Nottage, Managing Director and Executive Producer, Rock Oyster Media, said: “Gary is a much-loved, charismatic and inquisitive traveller. Pair him with his mate Jason Manford and belly laughs and high adrenaline are guaranteed! Together Gary and Jason will travel through an emotional mix of culture, history and spectacular views – all bound together by good wine, good views and fantastic vibes.”
The series is executive produced by David Nottage and Charlotte Davis. Holly O’Leary is series producing and Ella Welsing-Kitcher is assistant producing. Production management is handled by Head of Production Caroline Allan and Production Manager Jane Pierce.
The series is commissioned by Leanne Clarke, Assistant Commissioner for Entertainment and Daytime at ITV.
Dave Riley, Great Rail Journeys, added: “Great Rail Journeys has always believed that the most powerful travel stories come to life when you create genuine moments of connection – between people, cultures and landscapes. Working with Gary Barlow on a six‑part TV series across New Zealand was a perfect example of that: a chance to share the country’s stunning scenery, warm hospitality and incredible food and wine through the lens of someone who truly engages with the places he visits.”
