BBC Three is inviting independent production companies based in the West Midlands to pitch ideas for a new Current Affairs documentary.

This Invitation to Pitch is part of a partnership between BBC Three, Create Central and Creative UK which aims to boost content production in the West Midlands. BBC Three is inviting qualified production companies based in the West Midlands to pitch ideas for a 60-minute Current Affairs film.

The partnership with Create Central and Creative UK aims to “enhance the quality and volume of production, develop an inclusive talent pipeline and reflect more diverse voices and experiences from across the West Midlands.” The West Midlands IP Fund is supported by the West Midlands Combined Authority and Create Central, and delivered by Creative UK, providing development funding in the region – this BBC partnership is the first opportunity to be made available through the fund.

This opportunity is for qualifying indie companies only and is to make a single Current Affairs TV documentary for broadcast on BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Indies are being asked to pitch “attention-grabbing stories that reflect some of the biggest issues facing young Brits today.”

Nasfim Haque, Head of Content – BBC Three, says: “This is a great opportunity for West Midlands indies to pitch their best and most innovative ideas to us. We can’t wait to see what the creative community in the West Midlands will pitch.”

Ed Shedd, Chair of Create Central, says “We are thrilled to launch the first call-out of the IP Content Fund in collaboration with BBC Three. Ideas are the driving force behind the creative economy, and this initiative marks a significant opportunity for local production companies to contribute to a growing, sustainable creative hub in the West Midlands. By investing in high-quality intellectual property and fostering homegrown talent, we are not only boosting the region’s creative output but also generating real economic value and opportunities for new talent. BBC Three’s call for ideas for a new current affairs documentary is the perfect way to ignite this momentum and create lasting opportunities for our local creative sector.”
