BBC Studios has secured its first YouTube Originals commission and is producing The Edge of Science, starring presenter, podcaster and science enthusiast Rick Edwards and YouTube stuntman, inventor and filmmaker Colin Furze.

Produced by BBC Studios Science Unit, The Edge of Science will see Furze and other YouTube science creators team up with Edwards to put the most ‘out there’ ideas in science to the test, with a range of stunts and experiments to explore if it’s really possible to levitate.

Rick and his team of expert science and education creators will meet the scientists behind cutting edge research into acoustic and quantum levitation and test their theories through various stunts that will challenge viewers’ understanding of the world.

Luke Hyams, Head of YouTube Originals said: “We are delighted to be partnering with BBC Studios on this pioneering special starring Colin Furze and Rick Edwards, exploring the science behind levitation and whether science can make the impossible possible. A future of flying trains, rain falling upwards, and walking on water is closer than we think!”

Andrew Cohen, Head of BBC Studios Science Unit: “This is our first commission for YouTube Originals and it’s great to be sharing our science expertise and story-telling with new audiences.”

Rob Liddell, Series Producer, BBC Studios Science Unit, said: “We’re really excited to be making this brand new special for YouTube with Colin and Rick, full of incredible stunts backed up by the latest science.  We have big ambitions and hope to break a world record along the way.”

The Edge of Science will premiere on the BBC Earth YouTube Channel in December 2019.
