The BBC has announced plans to reduce the size of its property portfolio in London and Salford “as part of ongoing reforms to deliver a simpler, leaner and more efficient organisation.”

The BBC will exit Wogan House in London, home to some of Radio 2 and 6 Music’s programme teams and staff from other BBC departments, and Bridge House in MediaCity, Salford where BBC Children’s and Education and some BBC Sport and operations staff are based. These moves are expected to be completed in the spring of 2024. Wogan House was formerly known as Western House prior to 2016, when it was renamed.

In London, programmes currently recorded and broadcast in Wogan House will move into existing BBC buildings, including primarily to nearby Broadcasting House, whilst in Salford, staff will move to alternative MediaCity sites – Quay House and Dock House.

The BBC says a reduction in the size of the estate will help towards delivering its net zero commitments and also comes as a result of the adoption of hybrid working.
