The BBC has commissioned a new factual drama on the story of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian citizen who was detained in Iran for six years, and her husband Richard Ratcliffe who campaigned tirelessly for her return.

The factual drama is based on a forthcoming book, A Yard of Sky, written by Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Richard Ratcliffe. It will be made by Fremantle-backed Dancing Ledge Productions (The Salisbury Poisonings) for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The 4×60 series covers the period from the day Nazanin was arrested at the airport in Tehran to her release and return to the UK six years later.

A BBC spokesperson said: “Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Richard Ratcliffe’s extraordinary experiences captured everyone’s hearts; their journey is one of despair, courage and hope, spanning two countries and six years, and ultimately, it’s a story of how this family, who were forced apart by international events, were finally reunited.”
