The European Commission has given the go-ahead for the Banijay Group to acquire Endemol Shine in a deal worth $2.2bn.

The deal itself was announced in October last year and had already been given the OK by the USA regulator. Now the EC has also approved the buy out, all regulatory hurdles are complete.

The EC’s statement said that “the Commission concluded that the operation will not generate competition problems given the presence of a sufficient number of alternative actors with portfolios of similar content in the countries concerned,”

Overall control of both banijay and Endemol Shine will now be held by Lov Group, the holding company of Banijay chair Stéphane Courbit.

Other major shareholders in the combine include Vivendi, De Agostini and Fimalac.
