Asian vfx and animation studio, Base FX, has opened a new London studio.
The new facility will be led by industry veterans David Fowler as Creative Director and Alasdair MacCuish as Managing Director.
Founded in 2006 by Chris Bremble, Base FX has grown to become one of the region’s premier VFX companies, with production studios in Beijing, Kuala Lumpur and Los Angeles.
The studio has earned three Emmy Awards for its work on HBO’s The Pacific, Boardwalk Empire, and Black Sails, a BAFTA Award for Best Visual effects for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, along with Academy Award nominations for Best Visual effects for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and The Batman.
The London studio represents Base FX’s first European facility and will leverage the UK’s world-class talent pool, competitive tax incentives, and strategic position at the heart of the international film and television industry.
David Fowler has previously worked at MPC, Warner Bros and Digital Domain (London) his credits include the Harry Potter franchise, King Arthur, and Fantastic Beasts. Recently he served as visual effects supervisor on One Life, Golda, and upcoming Above the Below as well as visual effects executive producer on The Brutalist, Fight or Flight and Small Axe

Alasdair MacCuish takes on the role of Managing Director, contributing 25 years of post-production expertise gained at leading UK facilities such as MPC, Cinesite and Framestore. With credits spanning early work on Tomb Raider, Sweeney Todd and Resident Evil through recent productions including The Brutalist, The Salt Path and One Life.

The London studio will offer a full suite of visual effects services, from early concept development through final delivery, and will work in close collaboration with Base FX’s established facilities across Asia.
Base FX’s portfolio includes recent work on Marvel’s Ironheart, Ant-Man and The Wasp:Quantumania, and numerous other high-profile Hollywood productions. The company’s strategic alliance with Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic, established in 2012, has further cemented its position as a trusted partner for the industry’s most demanding projects.
