Presenters Ant and Dec are to make a reboot of the kids drama show that started their careers, Byker Grove.

The show will be produced by the pair’s production outfit Mitre Studios and Sunderland Til I Die, Mammals and The Late Late Show with James Corden producer, Fulwell 73.

The show, that starred Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly as the characters PJ and Duncan, centred on the lives of a group of kids who attended a youth club in Newcastle. It ran for 18 series with the last shows going out 17 years ago.

Dec said the new show would “follow a new generation of young people and their families as they try to navigate the challenges they face today in the 2020s.”

The pair also said the new production, which will again be shot and set in the north east, would be an opportunity to create training opportunities and employment for TV workers in the region.

Ant said: “Bringing it back here at Mitre Studios alongside Fulwell 73 gives the opportunity to provide sustainable training and employment in front of and behind the camera for talent in the north east.”
