A survey of vfx workers and vfx houses by technical support outfit Escape Technology, shows that 55% of respondents say they could now sustain remote working forced by the COVID-19 crisis for eight months to a year.
The survey found that social distancing has rapidly sped up the growth of remote working in the vfx business and studios have had to move fast to find new ways to work whilst still complying with NDAs.
The report states that before Covid-19, 46% of the VFX Industry revealed they did not have a work from home policy or technology in place.
Data security has always been seen as a barrier for remote working in vfx but the survey found that 34% of respondents stated that one of the biggest barriers they felt to working remotely was the technology setup. However, after vfx houses have rushed to set up remote working systems, 55% of the research respondents commented that they could now sustain this style of remote working for eight months to a year.
The report also showed that 87% of VFX industry workers said that during this crisis their leadership team have heavily encouraged, supported, and facilitated remote working.
However, long-term due to the human connection that the office provides, 48% state that although working from home is now more desirable they would rather work from the office where possible.
