BBC Children’s and Education has ordered an adaptation of the hit children’s novel Dexter Procter: the 10-Year-Old Doctor, written and created by Adam Kay (This is Going to Hurt).
The 2 x 50-minute standalone special episodes, the first of which is airing later this year, tell the story of Dexter Procter, a 10-year-old paediatrician trying to solve medical mysteries.
Young actor Cian Eagle-Service makes his screen debut as Dexter. Peter Serafinowicz (How To Train Your Dragon) stars as Dr Drake, Dexter’s jealous colleague.
The adaptation will be executive produced by Adam Kay alongside James Kay for Terrible Productions and Phil Clarke and Roberto Troni for Various Artists Ltd. Amy Buscombe is Executive Producer for the BBC. The producer is Arabella McGuigan (Still Up), the director is Matt Lipsey (Ted Lasso) and the Casting Director is Lauren Evans (Sex Education).
The comedy specials, filmed in the Wirral, also include Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) as Miss Melon, Mike Wozniak (Taskmaster) as Mr Procter, Konnie Huq (Blue Peter) as Ms Saeed, Harry Enfield (Harry Enfield and Chums) as Morrison, and Sue Johnston (The Royle Family) as Granny Bet.

There are plenty of famous faces who will bring laugh out loud moments that can be enjoyed across the generations as we bring this drama for the whole family to BBC One later this year.”

Completing the line-up are Aroop Shergill and Hugo McGinn as Dexter’s best friends Rupi and Otto, Max Lester as Toby Tanner, Gemma Whelan as Mrs Procter, Michelle Gomez as Barbara Burnhall, Kieran Hodgson as Mr Kingsley, Ashley McGuire as Mrs Lake, Pippa Haywood as Dr Marigold, Jake Canuso as Pepe, and Michelle Greenidge as Ngozi.
