Indie Captive Minds is behind Lorraine Kelly’s Norwegian Odyssey, a three-part documentary which sees the broadcaster and journalist voyage the fjords to discover, uncovering how the Viking era has left its imprint on the way of life and landscape of Norway, and the parallels observed in Kelly’s home nation of Scotland to this day when it was once sieged under Norse rule.

Kelly will meet people along her travels that are keeping the history of Norway alive through folk traditions and Nordic tales, and immerse herself in the crafts and culinary delicacies of the region. She will sail north along the coast to see what natural beauty it offers, spotting whales and eagles, in hopes to end her journey with a Northern Lights (aurora borealis) spectacle.

Lorraine Kelly comments: “This is a personal journey for me, I grew up with Viking legends and stories, and Norway’s history is so entwined with Scotland’s. I’m excited to discover as much as I can about the country’s mythical past and how it impacts this wild and spectacular land.”

Channel 4’s Clemency Green says: “We’re excited to see what Lorraine and Captive Minds discover on their expedition across Norway. Our viewers are going to love this beautiful and informative series.”

Captive Minds’ David Harrison adds: “We’re delighted to bring this epic journey to life for Channel 4. Norway is full of surprises and Lorraine’s natural curiosity and warmth makes her the perfect travel companion for a voyage along one of the world’s most beautiful coastlines.”

Lorraine Kelly’s Norwegian Odyssey (3×60’) is commissioned by Clemency Green, Senior Commissioning Editor with Jo Street, Director of Commissioning, Nations & Regions and Head of Lifestyle. It is executive produced by David Harrison and Liz Mills, along with series producer and director Ross Haley. Stream or watch the series next year on Channel 4.
