Cinesite is to be key VFX partner on the upcoming historical action-thriller, Fortitude.

Directed by Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), the film explores the extraordinary true events of Operation Fortitude the elaborate Allied deception campaign that misled Nazi intelligence ahead of the D-Day landings.

The film’s cast includes Matthew Goode (The Imitation Game); Ed Skrein (Jurassic World: Rebirth); Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness); Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon); Ben Kingsley (Gandhi) and Nicolas Cage (Con Air).

Cinesite’s London team under the supervision of Zave Jackson is delivering a wide range of visual effects to bring the “war of wits” to life. Work focuses on high-stakes historical world-building, including large-scale digital environments recreating 1940s London and coastal landscapes, period-accurate military assets and the “Ghost Army”, integrating the famous inflatable decoys used to trick the enemy.

The project marks a reunion between Cinesite and renowned Production VFX Supervisor Steve Begg, having previously collaborated on iconic James Bond titles like Skyfall and Spectre.

“‘Fortitude’ presents a challenge in recreating a ‘theatre of war’ where visual deceptions were just as critical as physical battles,” says Zave Jackson, VFX Supervisor at Cinesite. “It is a privilege to collaborate once again with Steve Begg to bring this incredible piece of history to life with the scale and authenticity it deserves.”

Sara Rust, Executive Producer at Cinesite London, adds: “Fortitude is a story about the power of illusion, making it a perfect canvas for visual effects. Working with Simon West allows our team to showcase the high level of craftsmanship and historical detail we are known for.”

Produced by Simon Afram, Georgette Turner, Reza Roohi, and Edward Kahl, Fortitude is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release in late 2026.
