The Mill has topped the list of the UK’s top 50 post houses in Televisual’s prestigious Facilities 50 survey of the UK post production sector for the ninth year in succession.

Now in its 30th year, Televisual’s Facilities 50 survey exclusively reveals the 50 post facilities that currently rule the roost in UK post production.

The Mill took the top spot on the back of a £155m turnover and a great showing in both the Producer Poll and the Peer Poll and work like its SSE Neon House spot and creature creation on 3’s Go Roam and Go Binge.

MPC was placed second after a year in which it created Buster the Boxer for John Lewis and worked on movies including Ghost in the Shell and Wonder Woman. Third went to Framestore, with work under its belt including Beauty and the Beast and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them.

MPC topped the Producer Poll, our poll collated from producer votes in various Televisual surveys throughout the year. The Mill took second in the poll with Envy in third.

The Mill also topped the Peer Poll where post houses vote for the rivals they most admire. The Farm came in second with Framestore third.

In this year’s survey, the total turnover of all the companies that responded to the Facilities 50 survey is £681m. That’s up from £591m last time.

In the survey, post houses overall reported that they’re feeling positive about the amount of work pouring in on the back of big budget commissions from the Netflix’s of the world along with more high end drama commissioning in the UK and work coming from Hollywood features.

There was optimism too about 4K UHD and HDR as well as technologies like VR and AR that require the specialised knowledge of dedicated post houses.

There were worries reported as well. Brexit uncertainty dogged most businesses along with complaints of undercutting by rivals and inadequate post budgets.
