New London-based production company, KIN, has now launched with a focus on vertical drama.
Founded by Ben Sedley, Ben Clapp and Kate Arton, KIN (kin.london) brings together experience across advertising, filmmaking and documentary to create original scripted content designed specifically for mobile viewing.
As the number of vertical drama platforms grows worldwide, KIN is focused on developing “bold, high-quality drama” for audiences seeking short-form, episodic stories on their phones.
“Vertical drama has already overtaken the cinema box office in China in revenue terms, and with major studios now investing in the format in the US, we believe vertical storytelling is set to become a mainstream viewing habit in the UK,” said Ben Sedley.
“As audiences watch more entertainment on their phones, our focus is on creating great stories that keep them coming back, episode after episode,” added Ben Clapp.
“We want to elevate the format by tapping into the UK’s exceptional pool of production talent, crafting original stories that resonate with audiences and help define what this medium can become,” said Kate Arton.
KIN launches with ‘All the Rage’, a comedy-drama set in the North of England, with the first 11 episodes now streaming at alltherage.onthehiway.com via creator platform Hiway.
Jen Cooper, founder of Vertical Drama Love, and executive producer on All the Rage, said, “This is a bold leap forward in vertical storytelling, bringing a very British wit and style whilst still keeping all the components audiences love about microdramas – pace, romance and most importantly of all, the drama! It’s what fans have been waiting for.”
Alongside building a slate spanning comedy, romance, thriller and horror, KIN will also collaborate with brands exploring storytelling within this emerging format.
