Tom Burke and Eve Hewson are to lead the cast of Lenny Abrahamson’s self-penned untitled film, which starts shooting in Dublin on March 2 for Element Pictures.
Set within Dublin’s Jewish community in the late 1970s, the film is billed as a “lyrical and emotionally resonant” portrait of Davey (newcomer Sean Meagher), a 12-year-old boy on the edge of change, navigating the anxieties of adolescence alongside the evolving dynamics of his parents’ marriage.
Producers are Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe of Element Pictures (a Fremantle company), Catherine Magee (Normal People, Small Things Like These), and Abrahamson.
Abrahamson (Room) is reunited with collaborators from his Element Pictures series Normal People and Conversations with Friends: Production Designer Anna Rackard, Director of Photography Suzie Lavelle, Editor Nathan Nugent, Make Up Designer Sonia Dolan and Composer Stephen Rennicks. Also on board are Costume Designer Eimer ní Mhaoldomhnaigh (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Hair Stylist Orla Carroll (The Banshees of Inisherin).
Burke was last seen in Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, and credits include Furiosa, The Souvenir and television series Strike. Hewson’s recent credits include the film Flora and Son, directed by John Carney, as well as the hit television series’ The Perfect Couple and Bad Sisters. She next stars in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day which will release in June.
The film is funded by Film4, High Frequency Entertainment, Screen Ireland and RTÉ. A24 has boarded as US distributor, Elevation Pictures as Canadian distributor and FilmNation Entertainment is representing international sales.
