Channel 5 has commissioned a companion documentary to air ahead of the All Creatures Great and Small Christmas Special on 5 later this year.

All Creatures Great & Small: Behind the Magic (1 x 60’’), is produced by Playground, the indie behind the drama series. The special will take viewers behind the scenes of the TV series.

All Creatures fan Graeme Hall, host of Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly, journeys up to the Yorkshire Dales to the home of All Creatures Great & Small to learn the secrets behind the making of the series. He will spend time with both the human and animal cast members, take a tour of the studio set and the market-town of Grassington (Darrowby), with actor Callum Woodhouse, and take on an acting role in the show.

Graeme Hall said: “I’ve been a massive fan of Channel 5’s hit show All Creatures Great and Small for donkey’s years, so I was delighted – honoured – to be asked to make a cameo appearance on the show (scary acting debut!) and to take a TV crew along for the ride, behind the scenes. Join me and the cast of the show at the studio and in real-life Darrowby for a fascinating access-all-areas journey of discovery. Christmas in June…? Surely not… “

All Creatures Great & Small: Behind the Magic, is presented by Graeme Hall and features cast members Samuel West (Siegfried Farnon), Anna Madeley (Mrs Hall), Nicholas Ralph (James Herriot), Rachel Shenton (Helen Herriot), Callum Woodhouse (Tristan Farnon) and Patricia Hodge (Mrs Pumphrey). Executive Producers for Playground Television are Sharon Moran and Melissa Gallant, Commissioning Editor for 5 is Greg Barnett. Alain Galès directs and produces for GaleforceTV.
