U&Dave has made its first original drama series commission, Hit Point (6×60’), written by Howard Overman (Misfits, The War of The Worlds), and directed by David Caffrey (The Gentlemen, Peaky Blinders).
Hit Point is developed & produced by Urban Myth Films (Paris Has Fallen, The Lazarus Project) co-financed by Canal+, with StudioCanal (Families Like Ours, Playing Nice) handling worldwide sales & distribution. Hit Point will air on U and U&Dave next year.
Hit Point is a blend of crime thriller and romantic drama, following thirtysomething detectives Leo and Bella as their latest case pulls them into a West London underworld.
Howard Overman said, “We are all excited at Urban Myth Films to be teaming up with UKTV on Hit Point. It’s been a joy to create a show that blends high-octane thrills with heart, humour and a love story at its core. We have a talented crew of industry experts bringing Leo and Bella’s world to life and I can’t wait for audiences to dive into the twists, turns and surprises we have in store.”
Hit Point is commissioned by Helen Perry, head of drama commissioning for UKTV, and ordered for U&Dave and U by Emma Tibbetts, director of programming, scripted, and Hilary Rosen, director of commissioning. David Caffrey directs, the executive producers are Johnny Capps, Julian Murphy and Howard Overman. CANAL+ commissioned the series for its global footprint in over 50 countries across France, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Helen Perry said, “Hit Point is a cop show like no other. With his singular voice Howard has crafted a tense crime thriller that’s driven by a characterful will they, won’t romance. It’s a distinctive genre mash-up, full of heart, humour and action-packed sequences. It’s the perfect first scripted drama commission for U&Dave and U, and a marker of our ambition for drama on the channel.”
Emma Tibbetts said, “We’ve been wanting to make the right scripted drama on U&Dave for a long time, and Hit Point hits the mark. It’s sharp, stylish, and full of twists – exactly the kind of gripping, character-led drama we know our viewers love. We can’t wait to bring it to our viewers on both U&Dave and U next year.”
Johnny Capps added, “Urban Myth Films are proud to be making U&Dave’s first original drama. Hit Point promises to be a bold, original drama which reinvents the cop genre.”
M-K Kennedy, Managing Director of STUDIOCANAL Television, expands, “Howard, Johnny and Julian are masters of heart-pounding action. It’s so gratifying to fully support them as they bring added wit and romance to the genre with Hit Point and their first UKTV commission. We are delighted to continue our partnership with Urban Myth Films developing and delivering must see series.”
U&Dave is UKTV’s free-to-air entertainment channel, home to original entertainment commissioning like Will & Ralf Should Know Better, Guy Martin: Proper Jobs, Silence is Golden and BAFTA-winning Big Zuu’s Big Eats. All U&Dave programming can be found on U, UKTV’s free streaming service with over 9000 hours of content from UKTV’s free-to-air channels U&Dave, U&Drama, U&Yesterday and U&W, as well as programming exclusive to U.
Hit Point is the first original drama commission for U&Dave, but just the latest scripted drama for UKTV. In February this year the network’s streaming service U and free-to-air channel U&Drama launched the reimagined Bergerac to an average 2.4million viewers. Starring Damien Moloney in the title role and written by Toby Whithouse, Bergerac will return for a second series next year.
This year has also seen U and U&Drama air the second series of Robert Thorogood’s The Marlow Murder Club, with a third announced for next year; and Outrageous, a 30s set drama based on the true story of the Mitford sisters. On UKTV’s pay channel U&alibi, Bookish is written by and stars Mark Gatiss and will return for a second series next year; I, Jack Wright is written by Chris Lang and stars John Simm, Nikki Amuka-Bird and Trevor Eve; and Mudtown, a co-production with S4C, premieres today and stars Erin Richards and Tom Cullen.
Hit Point starts filming next month and airs on U and U&Dave in 2026. Casting news will be announced at a later date.
