Dolly Alderton and director Euros Lyn have started production on their adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
The six-part series previously announced three of its stars: Golden Globe winner Emma Corrin (Nosferatu, Black Mirror) and BAFTA winner Jack Lowden (Slow Horses, Benediction) as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, and Academy Award winner Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown) as Mrs. Bennet.
Joining the lineup are Rufus Sewell, Freya Mavor, Jamie Demetriou, Daryl McCormack, Rhea Norwood, Siena Kelly, and Louis Partridge.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” said Alderton. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. The book is a gift to adapt — packed with drama and depth as well as comedy and charm. In it lies the opportunity to examine the complexities of love, family, friendship, and society, while aspiring to Austen’s delightfully observational voice. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”
The series has announced its final cast. Joining Corrin, Lowden, and Colman are Sewell (The Diplomat, Scoop) as Mr. Bennet, Mavor (Industry, La Dame Dans L’Auto Avec des Lunettes et un Fusil) as Jane Bennet, Norwood (Heartstopper, Cabaret) as Lydia Bennet, and Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery as Mary and Kitty Bennet in their screen debuts.
Playing the Bennet sisters’ suitors are Demetriou (Stath Lets Flats, Barbie) as the Mr. Collins, McCormack (Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery; Good Luck to You, Leo Grande) as Mr. Bingley, and Partridge (House of Guinness, Disclaimer) as the Mr. Wickham. Kelly (Black Mirror, Domino Day) will be Caroline Bingley and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) will be Lady Catherine de Bourgh.
Also included in the final cast are: Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts, A Streetcar Named Desire) as Mrs. Gardiner; Sebastian Armesto (Gangs of London, A Small Light) as Mr. Gardiner; Rosie Cavaliero (KAOS, Bookish) as Lady Lucas; Saffron Coomber (Three Little Birds and Die Zweiflers) as Mrs. Hurst; James Dryden (Deadpool & Wolverine, Time Bandits) as Mr. Hurst; Justin Edwards (The Thick of It, The Franchise) as Sir William Lucas; James Northcote (The Last Kingdom, Fool Me Once) as Colonel Forster; Eloise Webb (The Queen’s Gambit, Sanditon) as Harriet Forster and Isabella Sermon (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World: Dominion) as Georgiana Darcy
Alderton and Lyn are executive producing the series alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, and Louise Mutter for Lookout Point, with Corrin earning their first executive producer credit as well. Lisa Osborne (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light) is producing.
“We are delighted to be sharing this beloved British classic with our global audience. Pride and Prejudice is the ultimate romantic comedy,” said Netflix executive Mona Qureshi. “Dolly’s fierce intelligence and enormous heart, twinned with her genuine love of the Austen novel, means she is able to bring new insights, whilst celebrating all that the generations of fans hold so dear. The caliber of a cast led by Emma, Jack, and Olivia is testament to this precious story being in the best possible hands with Euros Lyn and the team at Lookout Point at the helm.”
