Serious Facilities has opened a facility in London’s Fitzrovia, as it expands from its Glasgow base.
Taking over former post house The Joint, in Percy Street, the London facility occupies the whole building over five floors and with ten hybrid edit suites, an online grade and a dub and v/o booth.
Headed up by ceo Simon Cull, the facility is designed with client comfort in mind. “We aim to make post production as painless as possible,” says Cull.
Offline suites have sit-stand desks. All suites are airy with big windows, lots of natural light and editors can either work from the facility or home, all remoting back into the HQ in Glasgow, with a full screen third monitor with no latency of delay.
The London launch is predicated on team and equipment in Scotland doing the heavy lifting, where there is an ingest/MCR and Edit Assist team, Avid Nexis estate and Finishing department.
In Glasgow, Serious now occupies three buildings, having taken over space formerly occupied by post house Arteus, which went into administration last year. This space is now branded The Loft. Serious offers 55 physical offline suites, 130 remote suites, 10 online suites with operators, 10 audio dubs with engineers and four grading suites, with colourists.
The offer involves a split workflow where Serious can final post between Glasgow and London. Glasgow rates apply for work executed in Scotland and London rates for Percy St operations.
Screen Scotland is offering a 20% discount on top of rates for all work carried out in Scotland, subject to terms and conditions.
“This allows us to work to tight budgets and give productions more bang for their buck and also allows us to offer in person reviews for many of our clients who are based in London, saving unnecessary travel and time,” says Cull. “Our post and finishing team in Glasgow we feel are world class and we want to bring them to a wider market and take on lots of interesting and challenging work.
“We are bringing a wee bit of Scotland to London, including a fridge full of Irn-Bru, Shortbread from a local factory on Loch Lomond near my house and a bar showcasing the best Whisky, Gin and our local lager Tennents lager on Tap. We also offer a Serious tradition which is Bacon roll friday where we are also introducing our clients to the joy that is Square sausage and Tattie Scones which we import from Glasgow.
“Basically a nice wee boutique facility in central london, but with a powerhouse of a facility powering it in the background.”
