Filmmaker, photographer and social activist Misan Harriman has joined the production team of White Man Walking, a feature-length BBC Storyville documentary, as executive producer. The film, which aired on BBC Four in May and on ARTE in Germany and France in June, is produced by Osun Group.

Harriman has been supporting the film during the film’s production and he now officially joins as an executive producer to continue to support the strategic distribution rollout and help elevate the film’s visibility.

White Man Walking follows white filmmaker Rob Bliss on an extraordinary journey through Trump’s America, wearing a Black Lives Matter T-shirt in the wake of George Floyd’s killing. As he walks from rural highways to small towns across the Deep South to Washington, Bliss encounters visceral reactions that expose the depth of the nation’s racial and ideological divide – juxtaposed with rare moments of meaningful connection from those who choose to walk beside him. His journey becomes both a stark exploration of fear and a powerful call for unity.

The film asks why a simple act of advocating for Black lives can provoke such intense responses, particularly in poor, rural white communities. It is both a deeply personal journey and a broader call for empathy and understanding.

Renowned for his searing visual storytelling and cultural commentary, Harriman gained global recognition for his powerful photography during the Black Lives Matter protests in London. He made history as the first Black male photographer to shoot a British Vogue cover and was nominated for an Academy Award for his directorial debut, The After, starring David Oyelowo.

Misan Harriman said: “White Man Walking is not just a film, it’s a reckoning. I’m proud to join this project to help interrogate power, privilege, and allyship in ways that challenge, disarm, and ultimately help us all grow. This is about truth-telling, not comfort.”

Osun Group founder and Executive Producer Luti Fagbenle said: “Misan Harriman is one of our greatest storytellers. His deep commitment to social justice and unique visual perspective align perfectly with our mission to tell bold, impactful stories about racial and social injustice. His expertise will be invaluable in helping us share this powerful documentary. We’re delighted to be working with him.”

Produced by Osun Group (in association with Doc Hearts), the documentary is executive produced by Luti Fagbenle, founder and CEO of Osun Group, alongside BAFTA-winner Andy Mundy-Castle (White Nanny, Black Child), Emmy-nominated Maxine Watson (African Queens) and Misan Harriman (The After, Shoot the People).
