Documentary studio Zandland has launched its weekly content series The Zandland Show, alongside a new slate of in-person events “designed to deepen engagement with its growing community.”
Fronted by investigative filmmaker and Zandland founder Ben Zand, The Zandland Show will encompass explainers on world events, conversations with journalists, creators, public figures and members of underreported communities, in addition to the monthly Zandland documentaries under the Human banner.
The launch marks the latest phase in Zandland’s direct-to-consumer strategy. Alongside its original commissions, the studio has focused on building owned audiences and expanding its community footprint, reaching over 24M viewers since October with over 130,000 hours of watch time and features in press around the world, including on The Daily Show in the US; plus the launch of a weekly Substack newsletter.
Zandland is also developing a membership model.
The introduction of live events will extend their strategy offline, creating ticketed and member-led experiences designed to foster discussion and community-building around the studio’s work.
Ben Zand, founder and CEO of Zandland said: “Our bet is that there are more people than ever who want to properly understand the world and connect with others around stories that are true and real. At a time when misinformation spreads easily and so much media feels distant or performative, we think audiences are looking for something more direct and human. The Zandland Show gives us a weekly space to talk honestly about the stories shaping the world, and the live events allow us to bring that community together in the real world. Zandland has always been about taking audiences to places they wouldn’t otherwise get to go and confronting uncomfortable truths, but doing it fairly and accurately. The response we’ve already seen from audiences tells us this is something people genuinely want to be part of.”
The first guest on The Zandland Show will be Kaouther Ben Hania, the director of the Academy Award-nominated film The Voice of Hind Rajab on Thursday 12th March.
The Zandland Show airs on YouTube and Spotify
