Dimension Studio and US-based Two Chairs Productions have announced a development deal for the planned 8 x 60’ television series, Camelot.
Camelot is created by veteran actor and director Christian Camargo (The Hurt Locker, AppleTV+’s See, Dexter). The show will be executive produced by investor and US-Based Two Chairs partner and co-founder Peter Resnick (The Librarians, Beyond Utopia). Camargo will also executive produce, alongside London-based Dimension Studio Co-CEO Steve Jelley (Masters Of The Air, Those About To Die).
The deal takes the shape of a co-production between the two companies, who will pool financial, creative and technical resources to create a production-ready series package. Virtual Production will be placed at the heart of the show, with final-pixel digital environments forming a key part of the sales material, alongside scripts written specifically for the VP stage.
The development deal will run over the next four to five months, with Two Chairs and Dimension planning to approach distributors in Autumn 2025.
Peter Resnick commented: “When Christian approached me with the idea for Camelot I was blown away by how exciting it was. But there was an immediate problem – how do we execute such an epic, studio-level show at an independently financed budget? That’s when we started looking more closely at virtual production. It can give you a cinematic scale – especially in our fantasy/sci-fi world – on a level that’s just not been previously possible for independently made television. That led us to Dimension Studio, and Steve and his team brought enthusiasm and new ideas to the project that just completely opened our eyes to what can be achieved. The co-production idea emerged as an opportunity to do something different – let’s embed our team with Dimension and shape the show for virtual production. Of course, there will still be a lot of practical filming – and there needs to be – but always done with our work on the VP stage in mind.”
Steve Jelley commented: “We’ve seen a real increase in filmmakers who want to work with virtual production at an early stage in the development of their work. That includes everything from general thoughts on the style of environments, to very specific methodology questions. Just as we were wondering how to formalise the development process, Christian and Peter came on our radar. We loved the pilot script, and the team were so open-minded about how they wanted to create the show with us, we quickly realised this was something we had to jump on. It’s a huge opportunity for our teams to be directly involved in the development of a show at the earliest stages, working with the screenwriters to craft a television series. It’s been done at various informal levels before, but certainly not on this scale and not with such a clear plan to create a television show package that we can take out to distributors together. We genuinely believe we can hit a price point for this style of show that will change the landscape of high-end television production.”
Camelot is the action-packed story of a post-apocalyptic America at a crossroads between destruction and salvation. The show combines the grit and high-octane action of Mad Max and The Last of Us with the outlaw culture of Sons of Anarchy, blended with spiritual elements and cultural prophecies from around the world. Get ready.
