All3Media-backed indie Build Your Own Films has appointed Natasha Phillips as Head of Development, to manage and grow its slate of scripted and non-scripted programmes.

Phillips is the first hire for BYO Films’ Co-CEOs Vicky McClure and Jonny Owen since partnering with All3Media in March.

Phillips joins from the Ink Factory where she has spent the last two years as Development Producer, developing global TV and Film projects, as well as working with emerging writers from diverse backgrounds on new talent initiatives.

Prior to this, Phillips spent more than two years as Head of Development at Various Artists Limited where she script-edited the smash-hit series I May Destroy You, as well as developing multiple projects for linear broadcasters and streamers.

From 2012 to 2017 Phillips worked at Channel 4 as Script Editor, then Commissioning Executive, across a broad range of drama including The Mill, Southcliffe, The Fear, Utopia, Humans, Coalition (RTS best single drama), Skins, Misfits and Youngers.

She began her career at BBC Wales and subsequently moved into the independent production sector, script editing for a number of companies.

Vicky and Jonny said: “Natasha’s commitment to developing new talent and her deep experience of working with established writers chimed perfectly with our ambitions for BYO. She is a passionate advocate for emerging voices, and, this, coupled with her deep experience and incredible drive, makes her a brilliant asset to BYO as we seek to attract the best new and experienced writers and talent.”

Natasha Phillips said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Vicky and Jonny at BYO.  Their vision for the company is rooted in excellence, opportunity, and inclusivity.  They have brilliant creative and production experience and I’m looking forward to being part of their success story.”
