Led by VFX Supervisor David Dunn, BlueBolt crafted 92 invisible VFX shots to support Peter Kosminsky’s vision for the BBC ‘s six part Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light – the conclusion of Hilary Mantel’s epic novels charting the final four years of Thomas Cromwell’s life in the treacherous court of King Henry VIII.
BlueBolt’s brief was to add Tudor era authenticity to the locations – including the meticulous digital restoration of both Holbein’s portrait of Anne of Cleves and the Abraham Tapestries at Hampton Court. In addition, BlueBolt delivered CG bees for Thomas Cromwell’s dream sequence and crowd enhancement for his execution. They also matched Cromwell’s dramatic final journey to the Tower of London by boat, with Anne Boleyn’s final journey from season one to help convey the emotional poignancy of Kosminsky’s storytelling.
