Filming has begun on upcoming Irish-British feature film 500 MILES in Dublin and Wicklow.
Helmed by BAFTA-winning director Morgan Matthews (X+Y, Williams), 500 Miles is billed as a “life affirming road-movie that packs a huge emotional punch.” It follows runaways Finn (Roman Griffin Davis) and his younger brother Charlie (Dexter Sol Ansell), on a journey over land and sea to find their estranged Grandfather (Bill Nighy) on Ireland’s wild West Coast.
Dexter Sol Ansell (a lead in the next Game of Thrones series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), Clare Dunne (Herself, Kin) and Michael Socha (Showtrail, This Is England) join a previously announced cast including BAFTA Award-winner Bill Nighy, Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit).
True Brit Entertainment, the independent distribution company led by former Lionsgate UK CEO Zygi Kamasa, has acquired UK & Irish distribution rights from world sales agent Beta Cinema.
Of the acquisition Zygi Kamasa, CEO of True Brit Entertainment commented: “500 Miles is an original, charming and dramatic film with a huge emotional heart that will resonate strongly with cinema audiences across the UK and Ireland. I’m excited to work with the cast and filmmakers, many of whom I’ve worked with before, to bring this heartfelt British story to the big screen.”
500 MILES will be directed by Morgan Matthews, director of acclaimed drama X+Y (a.k.a. A Brilliant Young Mind) and documentary Williams, from a script by award-winning writer Malcolm Campbell (What Richard Did, Herself, Ackley Bridge), based on the novel ‘Charlie and Me’ by Mark Lowery.
With the support of Fís Éíreann /Screen Ireland, former Head of BBC Film David Thompson (Billy Elliot, Notes on a Scandal, Woman in Gold, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom) is producing with Alex Gordon and Keren Misgav Ristvedt for Origin Pictures (Hope Gap, Sense of an Ending, A Brilliant Young Mind), Martina Niland (Once, Sing Street) from Dublin-based Port Pictures, and Minnow Films.
