The High-end Television Skills Fund, managed by ScreenSkills, is opening nominations for the third cohort of its Leaders of Tomorrow programme.

Launched in 2021, the programme aims to progress mid-level professionals into senior leadership roles.

“Over the last two years Leaders of Tomorrow has supported over 40 participants from a wide range of backgrounds, roles and departments across the UK.  We are now looking for the third cohort of participants who will help maintain the momentum of broadening the diversity of people in leadership roles in high-end television,” said Hannah Green, Senior HETV Professional Skills and Projects Manager, ScreenSkills.

This year the High-end TV Skills Fund is offering a minimum of 20 places to individuals looking to step up at some point in the future.  During the programme, they will complete up to three part-funded placements on high-end television productions. Participants will also receive individual training bespoke to their grade and department, a suite of leadership and management training sessions, funding towards equipment, a mentor and the opportunity to access a team of HETV professionals for tailored one-to-one support and networking opportunities.

Potential candidates for the programme must be nominated by someone who is senior within high-end television. This year, the HETV Skill Fund is offering a minimum of 20 places on the programme.

Helen Mattioli, joint Interim Head of Business, Scripted, from the BBC, which invested in the first two cohorts of Leaders of Tomorrow, commented: “The HETV Leaders of Tomorrow programme is hugely important to the HETV industry in order to equip the next generation of talent with the guidance they need to effectively develop and become future leaders.”

Launched in 2021, Leaders of Tomorrow is currently supporting 42 participants, with the first cohort due to complete the programme in 2024.

“Through mentorship and placements, Leaders of Tomorrow has opened doors for me – doors that I felt were closed for years.” added Payam Hosseinian, a participant in the inaugural 2021 Leaders of Tomorrow cohort. “Through the programme, I’m meeting people who are very generous with their time and are not afraid to go the extra mile in order to make our industry a better place for all of us.”

Applications for the programme must be submitted by 31 July 2023.
