Rogan Productions has appointed Merle Currie to the newly-created post of Head of Unscripted Development.
Currie, who joined Rogan Productions in April 2025, has been instrumental in guiding the development team through a period of significant growth, and scaling the company’s creative pipeline. In her new position, she will oversee all unscripted development activity across the business, shaping Rogan’s future slate and supporting its increasing volume of commissions.
The appointment is part of a wider build-out of Rogan’s senior creative leadership following the arrival of Jenny Popplewell as Head of Factual last summer. Popplewell is behind a run of major Netflix hits including American Murder: The Family Next Door, the streamer’s most-watched documentary for two years.
Head of Unscripted Development Merle Currie said: “I’m delighted to be continuing my work at Rogan Productions during such an exciting time of strategic growth for the company, whose values and quality I have long admired. I’m looking forward to working with the team on developing a new slate of bold ideas that resonate with audiences in the UK and globally.”
Rogan Productions Creative Director James Rogan added: “Despite a challenging industry landscape, the business has continued to grow and deliver standout films for broadcasters and platforms around the world. That success has moved us into a new space in the market and significantly increased demand for our development output. Merle has dazzled us with the quality of her ideas and her passion for expansion into new genres. Her appointment ensures we have the leadership in place to build the next phase of Rogan’s slate.”
Prior to joining Rogan, Currie held Executive Producer roles across development and production at Firecrest Films and Label1, where she developed and produced series including Hospital (BBC Two), Worlds Collide: The Manchester Bombing (ITV), Monkman and Seagull’s Genius Guide to Britain (BBC Two), Sixteen: Class of 2021 (Channel 4) and Soldier: Made in Yorkshire (BBC One). Earlier in her career she worked at Minnow Films and The Garden, and her producer credits include Stacey Dooley Investigates, Extreme OCD Camp (BBC Three) and the award-winning Cancer Research Right Now campaign.
