From Thursday 17 September, Radio 4’s long-running In Our Time hosted by Misha Glenny will be available for audiences as a video podcast on BBC iPlayer.

Audio editions will continue to be broadcast on Radio 4 and available on BBC Sounds and podcast platforms globally.

Alongside new weekly episodes, a specially-curated audio-only archive edition, chosen and introduced by Misha, will be added to the In Our Time feed on BBC Sounds each week.

In upcoming episodes, Misha and guests explore: Thomas More’s Utopia, the influential and ambiguous 1516 work that has been interpreted as both an ideal society and a timeless warning; the world of particle accelerators from the Large Hadron Collider to their far-reaching applications in science, medicine and archaeology; and, in an episode recorded live in Sheffield at Crossed Wires Festival, the film Casablanca and its enduring emotional power.

In Our Time has been a cornerstone of Radio 4 since its launch in 1998. It is regularly one of the BBC’s most listened to on demand programmes in the UK and around the world and is one of BBC Sounds’ most popular podcasts among listeners under 35.

Mohit Bakaya, Controller of BBC Radio 4, says: “For more than 25 years, In Our Time has inspired millions of listeners with its expert discussion and intellectual curiosity. The addition of a video podcast will preserve the programme’s hugely popular format while helping it reach new audiences as listening and viewing habits continue to evolve.”

Misha Glenny says: “In Our Time has always thrived on lively conversations, and video offers a new way for audiences to experience it. It’s a wonderful opportunity to reach people who may be discovering the programme for the first time, while giving long-term listeners another way to enjoy the conversations they know and love. The programme’s distinctive character and high standards remain at the heart of this exciting new chapter.”

The new series of In Our Time begins on Thursday 17 September on BBC Radio 4, BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer. In Our Time is a BBC Studios production for BBC Radio 4.
