Passion Pictures, the indie behind feature docs including Searching for Sugarman and Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, has hired Emily Jeal as Head of Feature Documentaries.

The newly established role comes after recent feature documentary success with Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story and two feature documentaries premiering at Tribeca Festival 2024; Antidote and Rebel Nun.

Jeal has played a key role in developing acclaimed Passion projects such as Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, which was acquired by Warner Bros, DC Studios, HBO Documentary Films, and CNN Films after Sundance and Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar (w/t)(BBC Fremantle).

Jeal has contributed to the development of Caroline Aherne: Queen of Comedy (BBC) and upcoming feature docs Rebel Nun and Antidote, both premiering at Tribeca this year.

Emily Jeal says; “I am thrilled to take on the role of Head of Feature Documentaries at such an exciting time for Passion Pictures. The momentum in the department is incredible, and I’m eager to continue developing ground-breaking and impactful stories with our brilliant team and the world’s best talent. It’s an honour to build on our successes and bring more powerful documentaries to audiences around the world.”

Jeal was previously at Dragonfly Film & Television and Minnow Films, her work as a producer includes the BAFTA winner All in the Best Possible Taste with Grayson Perry (C4) and Little Richard: King and Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll (BBC & PBS), Inside the American Embassy (C4), and Fleetwood Mac: Don’t Stop (BBC). She has collaborated with talent like Sharon Horgan and Armando Iannucci. Currently, she is developing a slate of new feature documentaries at Passion, including a film about a trailblazing female US comedian and the story of an iconic music concert that changed history.

Managing Director, Passion Pictures, David Moulton says, “We are delighted for Emily Jeal to step into the role of Head of Feature Documentaries.
