Netflix is to launch its new lower priced advert-supported plan, Basic with Adverts, in November.
Basic with Adverts will cost £4.99 a month in the UK and will launch on 3 November at 4pm GMT.
The tier will be available in 12 countries – Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US.
The new tier will average of 4 to 5 minutes of adverts per hour, there will be no download function and there will be a limited number of films and TV series that won’t be available due to licensing restrictions, “which we’re working on,” says Netflix.
At launch, adverts will be 15 or 30 seconds in length which will play before and during series and films.
Advertisers will be offered “broad targeting capabilities” by country and genre and advertisers will also be able to prevent their adverts from appearing on content that might be inconsistent with their brand.
Partnerships have been formed with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science to verify the viewability and traffic validity of adverts starting in Q1 2023.
