Brighton and Newcastle based indie Middlechild Productions has appointed Gursharan Singh Nijjar as its new Head of Factual.

Singh Nijjar was the series producer on Middlechild’s series “Coastguard: Every Second Counts” for Channel 5 which is set to return for series two early next year.

He will work across Middlechild and its Northern Child office in Newcastle, with a focus on premium, returning series.

Prior to joining Middlechild, Singh Nijjar was a Series PD on Forensics: The real CSI and a Senior Gallery Producer on 24 Hours in A&E, as well as Series Directing The Cotswolds with Pam Ayres. In the past he has produced and directed across a wide range of shows from Ambulance to Devon & Cornwall and Gardeners’ World to The Great Pottery Throwdown.

Middlechild’s MD, David Sumnall said: “Despite all the challenges in the industry, we’ve had a really positive couple of years, and we’ve been looking for someone to help capitalise on that growth. As soon as I started working with Gursh, and hearing his ideas and ambition, I knew we’d found someone who can take us to the next level. He’s got the perfect mix of being a great filmmaker and storyteller, as well as a team leader that everyone likes and respects.”

Gursharan Singh Nijjar said: “Working at Middlechild is an absolute joy for any film maker. David and the rest of the team are not only welcoming but strive for ambition and excellence across all levels of Production, something we all crave for in the industry. I’m incredibly delighted with this opportunity and proud to be part of Middlechild’s journey.”
