The May issue of Televisual is out this week.

The magazine features the Film 40, our annual guide to the behind the scenes talent and facilities of the UK film production industry.

It kicks off with a round up of the top 40 film producers in the UK, and in subsequent pages we profile the UK’s leading DPs, studios and vfx houses.

The Film 40 is published at a time when many are talking about a golden period for the feature film production sector here. Production levels are buoyant, with a record £1.6bn spent in 2016. However, most of the growth is coming from inward investment films like Star Wars and Justice League. It’s getting harder, though, to finance the mid budget features that UK producers typically make.

Elsewhere, the May issue features our annual Outside Broadcast report, while explores the big trends in the OB sector. 4K UHD capable OB units are now commonplace, but many operators are adopting a wait and see approach to the next big thing – IP.

There’s also an in depth look at the archive sector, which is adapting to meet an ever growing demand for video content in the UK and around the world.  Pippa Considine reports on the very modern business of selling archive.

And we look at the change sweeping through the lighting sector, where energy efficient LED lighting is rapidly rising through the ranks in all genres.

Jon Creamer rounds up the big news that came out of Las Vegas at the 2017 edition of tech fest NAB.

The directors of C4 drama doc The Trial explain the complexities of creating a fictional court case to reveal the hidden complexities of a murder trial.  Plus there’s a profile of The Inbetweeners creator Damon Beesley, whose new comedy White Gold airs on BBC2 this month.
