Documentary and drama indie, True Vision, has hired Mark Roberts as Creative Director.

Roberts, previously of Raw Cut and Glasgow’s Firecrest Films, is charged with “identifying the next generation of groundbreaking documentaries and returning factual series.”

Founder and chief exec, Brian Woods, will continue to focus on blue chip single docs, as well as overseeing further factual dramas.

The appointment is “expected to be the first of several strategic hires” as True Vision expands its portfolio for new broadcasters and streaming platforms. True Vision has won multiple awards over the years for its documentary work and now drama, recently co-producing The Sixth Commandment with Wild Mercury.

Roberts worked with True Vision when he was a commissioner at Channel 4, collaborating on China’s Stolen Children – which in 2007 was nominated for a record five BAFTAs, winning three – and the Royal Television Society Award-winning Undercover in Tibet.

Brian Woods said “We are incredibly lucky to have persuaded Mark to come on board, having first started to work with him almost 20 years ago.  He has a fantastic track record for securing returning factual series, and is absolutely committed to the ideals that True Vision have always stood for.”

Director & Production Executive, Jezza Neumann added, “Mark is an excellent addition to the True Vision team.  His arrival signals the start of an exciting period for the company as we look to grow and expand into new markets.”

“I’ve been an avid admirer of True Vision from Eyes of a Child to The Sixth Commandment,” said Roberts. “There isn’t a company out there with a greater commitment going the extra mile – as the bowing awards shelf testifies.  I am thrilled to be reunited with this extraordinary team and look forward to working with the smartest emerging talent, the most exciting productions and the most insightful and dynamic commissioners.”
