The Kennedy/Marshall Company has optioned the feature adaptation rights to the breakout documentary It’s Showtime, which premiered in April this year on ITV1 in the UK.
The documentary, made by producer Tania Alexander and Echo Velvet, has been well received by the media.
It’s Showtime follows a group of friends from Darlington in the Northeast of England, whose impulsive decision after one too many drinks to purchase a bargain racehorse that lacks any sort of pedigree takes them on an incredible journey. They name the horse Showtime Mahomes after their favourite American football star, Patrick Mahomes, and much to their surprise – and to the amazement of the elite racing world – the horse starts winning. But beyond its victories, the horse becomes an unexpected catalyst for transformation, offering the lads a fresh outlook on life’s challenges and found family.
“We are thrilled to begin developing this incredible true story for the big screen. It’s the right story for today, bringing heart, humour, and real emotion to this thrilling, against all odds sports story,” says Frank Marshall, who also produced Seabiscuit.
Said Tania Alexander: “Showtime’s journey sees the classic British underdog make good and the power of friendship. We admire Kennedy/Marshall’s prestigious track record and are very excited to see this heart-warming, true story, brought to life for movie audiences.”
