UK indie Toy Green has announced the release date for its doc, Ghetto Kids: No Plan B, launching Sunday 6th July on YouTube.

Three years in the making, the six part documentary series follows the true story of Kavuma Dauda– the original Ghetto Kid – and his global viral hit dance troupe who went from surviving on the streets of Uganda to opening the 2022 Qatar World Cup and wowing UK audiences as semi-finalists of Britain’s Got Talent in 2023.

The Ghetto Kids dance troupe of 3 to 17-year-olds have since become social media sensations amassing over 2M subscribers on YouTube, 8.6M followers on Instagram and 11.7M followers on TikTok.

The series from Toy Green is billed as a “powerful story of purpose, resilience, and survival.”

Kavuma’s journey began when he was given a chance by a teacher who gave him a place at a school thanks to his natural talent for football. That act of kindness set in motion Kavuma’s life mission, to rehabilitate, empower and uplift as many African street kids as he could. Being an ex-street kid himself, his ability to turn his hand to almost anything is uncanny. Having worked as a school headmaster, choreographer and music producer, his most proud role in life is as a humanitarian for the Ghetto Kids Foundation; helping street children reclaim their future through education and dance.

Despite the Ghetto Kids narrowly missing out on the £250,000 BGT prize money, undeterred Kavuma set his sights on becoming a project manager to build a new house for up to 100 children. But without the BGT win will he be able to raise the funds to do so? At the same time, he began learning how to farm, creating a goat farm that turns each child into an individual entrepreneur – whilst still attending school and continuing to create music and dance for millions of followers worldwide.

Through intimate interviews with Kavuma and the children in the Foundation, Ghetto Kids: No Plan B explores stories of hardship, courage and raw drive and determination – and the love of music, dance and ambition to dream big that unites them.

Produced by Toy Green, the series will premiere on the Ghetto Kids hugely successful YouTube Channel, broadcasting to their combined global audience of 22.3M. All revenue generated from the series will go directly to supporting the Foundation’s future.

Directed by Toy Green’s Phil Griffiths, Ghetto Kids: No Plan B is a collaborative project between Toy Green and the Ghetto Kids Foundation, with Kavuma Dauda as producer and Ghetto Kid’s social media manager Ronnie Vybz Ssentongo as an assistant director.
